Visual communications are a powerful tool in the growing field of distance learning, and desktop/mobile collaboration is the most rapidly growing area of this space. While dedicated room systems can provide a higher level of immersion and overall experience, desktop and mobile clients promise to extend visual communications to the millions of users that do not have room systems but do have webcam-equipped computers and mobile devices.
Though Skype and similar consumer-level desktop/mobile clients are acceptable for point-to-point calls, high-quality multipoint calling and interoperability with room systems requires a more robust infrastructure-based service. The Internet2 Commons fills this need for our members.

Vidyo Desktop
This service offers unlimited Vidyo Desktop user accounts and unlimited multipoint access based on a maximum number of concurrent users. For example, a subscription for ten concurrent users allows up to ten Vidyo Desktop clients to concurrently participate in calls, whether that be a single, ten-person call or five separate two-person calls. Since Vidyo Desktop is not natively compatible with H.323/SIP, gateway services for interoperability can be purchased separately.

Cisco Movi
This service offers individual user accounts that function as point-to-point desktop H.323/SIP clients plus the support of backend infrastructure to enable use in almost any network situation. Unlimited point-to-point calling is included, but a subscription to our standard Unlimited Use Room service is available to enable multipoint (if not using your own MCU).
