Gigaconference II:
High-Definition Videoconferencing Event

5 December 2006
Chicago, Illinois

All Internet2 member manufacturers of high-definition H.323 videoconferencing endpoints will participate in Gigaconference II, which will be held on December 5, 2006 at the Fall 2006 Internet2 Member Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

Each manufacturer will arrange a demonstration of their own endpoints.  The demonstrations will be live conferences with one or more other locations around the world, where their endpoints are being used in a real-world, practical application, such as at a University.   These applications will be demonstrated to the local audience in Chicago, as well as to a remote audience of other HD H.323 users on the Internet. The emphasis in this event is on actual applications, as opposed to manufacturer promotions.

This event will be run as a normal track session, lasting 60 minutes in total.   Each participating manufacturer will be given an equal share of the available time.   All endpoints will be connected to a high-definition-capable MCU. All endpoints must be tested for compatibility with the MCUs prior to the event.  The MCUs will be  a Codian, a RADVision Scopia, and possibly a Polycom and Tandberg.  Interoperability among various endpoints and MCUs is one of the goals of this event.

The remote audience will consist of anyone who has a high-definition endpoint, and would like to participate.  Advance registration is required for the remote audience participants, and there are only a limited number of ports available on a first-come basis.

Register online at: http://support.osc.edu/cgi-bin/veventreg/gigaconf2006

The event will be recorded, and DVD copies will be made available for distribution after the event.
