Real Time Communications Service
Conditions for Participation

To participate in the Internet2 Commons Real Time Communications Service, a prospective resource provider must meet the following criteria.

1) Serve Real-Time Communication needs of a potential Internet2 community.

2) Be recommended by an Internet2 member other than the resource provider itself and obtain a “champion” who is either a member of the Commons Management Team (CMT) or an appointee of the CMT. This champion will represent the product or service to the CMT as a whole during its evaluations and deliberations.

3) Be evaluated by the Commons Management Team, or appointed Internet2 member committee, on the basis of functionality, reliability, ease of use, and sustainability. Consideration will be also given to whether the product or service is standards-based, open-source, multi-platform, etc.

4) The prospective resource provider must be a Regular, Corporate or Affiliate Internet2 member in good standing.

5) Seek input from service users and members of the community. Adjust service offerings to meet community needs and expectations.

6) Annual reviews will be conducted by the CMT to determine continuance, based on mutual benefits to the resource provider and the member community.

7) A Service Level Agreement (SLA) will be drafted for each resource provider to set clear responsibilities, guidelines and timetables.
