H.323 Endpoint Testing and MCU Evaluation
The Internet2 Commons has three different H.323 MCUs available for testing. We have a Codian 4220, a RADVISION viaIP, and a Polycom MGC-100. If you would like a more hands-on demonstration of any of the MCUs, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will work out a time to give a virtual tour of the different capabilities. Please email us. Note: Requests for this service will only be accepted from designated Site Coordinators.
The Codian MCU is used for special events and is capable of H.239, the standard for duo video or people+content. This MCU can be dialed by IP or by registering to a GDS Gatekeeper. This MCU may be dialed at any speed using any endpoint. It is also H.264 capable for better quality video at lower connection speeds.
To connect to the Codian MCU by IP, dial 192.148.244.143. You must then enable FAR END camera control. Use the DOWN ARROW until you highlight "Testing." Then use the RIGHT ARROW to enter that conference. Do not forget to disable the FAR END camera control.
To connect to the Codian MCU by GDS, dial 001189 783 1234. The spaces are just there for readability.
The RADVISION MCU is used for Ad Hoc meetings and conferences, but has one reserved number for each configuration. This MCU can only be dialed by registering to a GDS Gatekeeper.

The Polycom MCU is used for scheduled meetings and is capable of H.239, the standard for duo video or people+content. One always-available meeting room is maintained for testing. This MCU can only be dialed by registering to a GDS Gatekeeper unless other arrangements have been made through your Site Coordinator. If you have an upcoming scheduled conference on the Commons, chances are that it is on the Polycom MCU. Please use the number below for testing, rather than the dial string you have been given unless a special scheduled test conference has been arranged.
To connect to the Polycom MCU by GDS, dial 001189 780 1234.
